Kid-Friendly Theater ~ Shows & Classes for Kids

November 10, 2018

Whether your child prefers to be on the stage or in the audience, there are undoubtedly benefits to participation. Fortunately, we have some amazing local opportunities in Walnut Creek, Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Danville and Lamorinda and in the East Bay beyond to enjoy children's theater performances and acting classes for all ages!

Huge thanks to Poison Apple Productions for sponsoring this post!

Poison Apple Productions in Martinez puts on performances and classes all year round. Their website is always up to date for registrations and ticket sales.

Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek offers regular kid-geared performances! Check their website year round for what's on the schedule.

Danville Village Theatre offers a preschool performance series throughout the year, as well as various kid-friendly plays and musicals. Click here for the calendar of upcoming shows.

Our local libraries have regular programming including theater performances, musicals, puppet shows and more! The Diablo Kid calendar includes them all, or you can go directly to the Contra Costa County Libraries website.

Worth the drive! Bay Area Children's Theater in Berkeley and Berkeley Playhouse put on fantastic productions for kids year round.

Would your kiddo love to get on the stage? There are endless reasons to encourage them, as Noelle Arms, artistic director of Poison Apple Productions, explains, "Beyond the obvious self confidence, literacy, and public speaking gained from working in theater there are huge benefits to a theater education. Today, kids have so many opportunities to distance themselves from one another - in school, with screen time, and what’s going on the world! But theater is the place where we all come together as equals - we laugh and cry together. We empathize with one another and learn to walk in someone else’s shoes. We work together and practice kindness and progress rather that work toward perfection. We learn that mistakes become a part of the creative process and are not the epic obstacles we once thought they were. This is where the magic of human connection happens. Kids (and all of us) need that to feel safe, accepted, and valued as part of an ensemble of storytellers."
